My AutoRun is not working on my computer, why? (For Windows 95, 98 or ME)
This answer is for Windows 95, 98 and ME. On Windows 10 or 11, see My AutoRun CD does not launch on Windows 10 or 11.
On Windows 95, 98 and ME, CD autorun can be turned off in Device Manager with a setting called Auto Insert Notification. To check it:
- Click Start > Settings > Control Panel and double-click System.
- Click the Device Manager tab and expand the CDROM branch.
- Double-click your CD-ROM drive and select the Settings tab.
- Check Auto Insert Notification. Checked means autorun is on; unchecked means it is off.
- Click OK and restart the computer.
If autorun is on and your disc still does not start, double-click the CD drive in My Computer. If your project starts that way, it is built correctly. See the full troubleshooting steps.
Try it yourself. AutoRun Studio is free to download and fully functional - see how it handles this on your own USB drive or CD.
